Why You Might Need Teeth Whitening
Over time all teeth will degrade in their whiteness. Given how many foods and drinks we consume, it is inevitable. Our teeth start out white and are given that coloration by the outer coating of enamel on them. Enamel is a hard, white, protective coating for our teeth that can degrade over time. Below the enamel is a layer of what is known as dentin. Dentin is yellow. After countless meals and drinks, the enamel will start wearing thing, and the dentin might start showing through. Another possibility is that our teeth become stained by things like:
No matter what the reason, the results are that our teeth take a beating and occasionally need some sprucing up; this is where teeth whitening comes in.
Over The Counter Vs Professional Teeth Whitening
The chances are high that you have seen plenty of products like toothpaste and mouthwash that boast about their ability to whiten teeth. You may have even tried a few of these options. Many people ask us if OTC teeth whiteners can stand up to the task of noticeably whitening teeth. The answer is; not really. While some of these OTC teeth whitening products can whiten your teeth a shade or two, the active ingredients in them are so weak that you probably won’t even notice a difference.
Professional Teeth Whitening at Our Dentist
We are proud to offer two different professional teeth whitening methods here at Our Dentist. The KoR whitening treatment is a two part teeth whitening treatment. To be treated with the KoR whitening procedure requires that you come into our office two times. During the first visit to our office, we will take an impression of your mouth and some pictures of your teeth. The second visit we will give you some whitening trays that are custom made for your teeth, and we will apply some whitening agents to your teeth while you relax for around 45 minutes. You will take the whitening trays home with you and apply whitening solution to your teeth over the course of a few weeks.
Our take home whitening method is similar to the KoR procedure, but we will not apply whitening agent to your teeth in our office at the start of the procedure. For many people whose teeth only need a little touch-up, this is the preferred method of whitening their teeth.
